Long-time Stockell Healthcare client Torrance Memorial Medical Center faced a crisis. Quite simply, it’s Patient Accounting and Billing Office was running out of room.

Over the years, the department’s practice of printing and filing all documents associated with each and every patient visit had not only resulted in thousands of patient information folders in file cabinets in the office and in a basement storage room, but had begun to negatively impact the staff members’ ability to perform their jobs in a timely, effective manner.

"Something had to be done. We were simply running out of space as well as patience. Our file cabinets were jammed and the time it took to find and pull needed patient information was killing our productivity as a unit," explained Helen Hanna, Director of Patient Accounts.

Already a regular user of the InsightCS® Revenue Cycle Information Management software solution, Torrance Memorial turned to Stockell Healthcare for the solution.

Working closely together, a team from Torrance Memorial and the Stockell Healthcare Professional Services team implemented the InsightCS® Document Management system; an integrated solution that captures and stores images, documents, sound, and video files via digital cameras and a variety of scanners.

Helen and her staff began using the InsightCS® Document Management system as soon as it was available for all current and future patient documentation and the results were excellent.

"The positive impact on our operation was immediate and powerful. In an average year, we capture over 3,500,000 patient information and visit document images with the InsightCS® Document Management solution. Needless to say, that's a lot of paper, files, space and money saved," Helen said.

Today, the Torrance Memorial Medical Center Patient Accounting and Billing office is nearly 100% paperless and has realized a number of additional benefits as Helen explained.

“We no longer need to budget for file clerk positions. Plus, we have a number of vendors, like our insurance recovery provider, who are able to provide their services remotely thanks to on-line access to the patient information they need.
